The status of the teachers is one of the major factors that make them give credit to students who do not deserve. The teachers should undergo a better training, which will enable them undertake their chores correctly. Some of the teachers fail to teach their students enough content, and thus the students fail in their examinations. However, the teachers fear losing their jobs if many students from their class fail. Thus, the teachers decide to secure their jobs by giving credit to students who had failed in their examination. Passing failing students makes some students to graduate without having the basics of education, such as reading. Teachers should be assessed while teaching, to ensure that they deliver enough content to the students, which will enable them pass in their examination. The students who are awarded grades that are not based on a merit end up failing in the future (Baldwin and Yvonne 28). After the non-qualified students acquire jobs, they are unable to manage, leading to the failure of companies and industries. Moreover, teachers should be motivated while in their workplace so that they can deliver quality education to the students. Quality education enables the students pass their examinations. When teachers are motivated, they will perceive teaching as a profession, and thus promote their qualifications.
Effective parenting is one of the solutions to end illiteracy in America. Some students fail to attend to their assignments, and give other people the task of doing it on their behalf. The parents should be observant and make sure that their children do their assignment without help from other people. Moreover, the parents should access their kids to ensure that the children have acquired reading and writing skills. Despite accessing the reading and writing skills, the parents should check the examinations of their children. The parents should ensure that the marks that have been awarded are correct. Responsible parents should not allow their students to graduate to the next grade whereas they have failed in the previous grade. However, few parents are concerned about the education of their children. After payment of school fees, most of the parents leave all the duties to the teachers, which is wrong. In other cases, some parents want their children to complete school faster, and thus are comfortable even if false results are awarded. Parents should advice and allow their children to take control of their education. Self-control promotes self-regulation among the students (Dolan et al 42). When the parents and the children are able to manage themselves, the problem of illiteracy in America will end.
As a strategy to avoid passing failing students and end illiteracy in America, the teachers should not be allowed to mark the examinations of students from their home schools. The teachers should switch the examinations with teachers from other schools to avoid favors for the students that teachers know. Through switching, the teachers mark the examinations for unknown students, and thus will not be biased. The teachers from different school will have a chance to access how well the teachers have prepared their students. When teachers realize that the examinations of their students will be marked by teachers from other schools, the teachers will work hard to ensure that their students pass. This strategy of ending illiteracy encourages hard work to both the students and the teachers because the students will be sure that the results in which they get will be genuine (Dolan et al 54).
