Everyone living in this world has the capacity to enjoy an abundantly fulfilling life provided she develops the ability to make full use of her thinking ability. When a person is aware that she can choose her thinking and direct it in a creative way, she can realize that she has a better control upon the life circumstances that improves her decision making process. However, creative thinking through managing one’s emotions does not mean that certain feelings are to be downplayed; instead, balancing one’s feelings helps in thinking creatively.
The first step in problem solving, once it is identified, is to list the core issues of the problem and exploring them (Chaffee, 2014). My core problem as a single mom is lack of education. I am sure education would increase my employment opportunities. I have the mental resolve and time to pursue my education. Once I get my degree, I would solve my problem by getting a better job that would support my family.
The second step comprises of listing out the alternatives to solve the problem. The first alternative to get educated is to enroll in a traditional university as a full time or part time student. Second alternative is to enroll in an online program. Career centers and technical schools can also help me to get educated that improve my employability. Last, but not the least, I can opt for an institution that provides a combination of traditional as well as online instructions.
Thirdly, as a single mom responsible for my family, I cannot afford a full-time degree. On the other hand, as an individual going to college for the first time, I feel personal coaching and guidance would be more valuable rather than relying only on online instructions . Since, I am required to work simultaneously I have to manage my time effectively between my home, college and workplace.
As a fourth step I would choose a college degree program that has the flexibility of giving both personal and online instructions. This gives me the advantage of taking care of my family by simultaneously working and studying. I shall have to manage my time effectively so as to successfully complete my college education within the shortest possible time.
As a fifth step to evaluate my progress, I will have to make my kids manage their own affairs that would give me extra hours for my studies. I also get extra time by rising up an hour early each day. Frequent discussion with my teachers would ensure my progress. I have to use my holidays effectively for my studies by temporarily setting aside family trips and holidaying until I complete my degree.
