World poverty Poverty refers to the state in which an individual lacks some material possessions and probably money. Poverty appears to be temporary or chronic, but it has devastating effects on the society (Connolly 38). Poverty is shifting and adapting due to the consumption patterns, technological change, and social dynamics. Poverty reduction is one of the key goals of the government and other charitable organizations.
CARE (Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere) is an international humanitarian organization that helps in cases of emergency. The organization formed in 1945 focuses on fighting poverty in the whole world. The organization in 2014 stated they were based in close to 94 countries and was assisting in more than 880 projects aimed at fighting poverty. Some of the programs that the organization addresses include food security, emergency response, climate change, health, and economic development. CARE also agitates at the international, local, and national level for change of policies that victimize the vulnerable and the rights for the poor individuals (Haveman 42). The organization also strives at empowering women and promoting issues of gender equality. The organization comprises of a confederation of about thirteen CARE members that are registered as a non-governmental organization.
Heartland Alliance is an anti-poverty organization located in Midwest. The organization believes that every individual has the potential and deserve to improve their state of life. The organization ensures that each and every year they at least give close to one million persons who live in poverty and are homeless the opportunity to improve their lives. The organization is based on three principles that include Holistic, Far-reaching, and change driven (Madigan 67). Based on their principle of far-reaching, the alliance ensures that it reaches nearly a million people with no basic needs to acquire them. On the principle of holistic, the alliance struggles to meet the needs of every individual despite their varying needs. The organization is change driven and seeks to collaborate with other organizations in order to shape the public policies (Madigan 78). The programs undertaken by the organization include housing, jobs, health care, and justice.
BRAC is an antipoverty organization formed by Fazle Hasan Abed, the former shell oil executive in 1972. The organization strived at reaching close to 139 million poor people in nine countries in Africa and Asia. The mission of the community is to empower the people in cases of illiteracy, poverty, social injustice, and disease (Smillie 36). BRAC operates on a budget of about half a billion dollars annually. Since it is an extraordinary organization, Omidyar Network (ON) funds it. BRAC’S vision is a world free from discrimination, exploitation and in which everybody can comprehend his or her potential (Smillie 89). The organization has created close to 8.5 million self-employment opportunities. The students going to BRAC schools do well and close to 3.8 million students have undergone through their primary schools during 2.3 million from their preparatory schools.
Children’s Hunger Alliance founded in 1970 has strived to fight hunger and give direct service to the low-income Ohio families. The duty of the group is to protect that all the children get regular and nutritious food. Some of the programs that the organization indulges include directly feeding the children with nutritious meals. The organization achieves this by ensuring the children are fed after the school programs. The organization also increases access to nutritious foods to children in schools. Children’s Hunger Alliance also educates the children on ways of living in a healthy manner. United Ways, USDA, and ODE fund the organization.
The organization that is worth funding is BRAC based on the manner in which it works. An individual who wanted to help the society formed BRAC and therefore it is important to fund such an organization. Currently, the organization operates in only nine countries in Asia and Africa probably due to the low amount of funds that they have. It is important to continue developing the organization to make it cover most of the countries in the world. Other organizations such CARE have huge sources of funding starting from some of the governments to the donors. The governments of around 13 countries fund the charity organization and as it such, it always has the finance to fund for its projects.
A group of individuals on the other hand formed Child Hunger Alliance and as such, they have the funds that can help them in their programs. The programs that the organization deals with are also few since it only focuses on the well-being of the child alone. Heartland Alliance programs has donors that it give a large sum of money to run its project unlike BRAC that has only one source of external funding.
BRAC currently offers few programs to the society due to the shortage of funds. The programs that it offers include empowering the people in cases of illiteracy, poverty, social injustice, and disease. The organization also gives micro loans to the people especially the youths. The micro loans are important to the people since they make them engage in activities that make them self-sustainable thus preventing poverty. Organizations such as CARE offer a large number of programs to the society due to the amount of funding that it gets. The organization has many projects that include food security, emergency response, climate change, health, and economic development. Such programs can only be undertaken when an organization has a stable source of funding and therefore it means that CARE has stable funding having been formed earlier than others have.
BRAC deals with some special programs that are very important at preventing poverty. The program includes giving micro loans to the people especially the youths. The people in this case are given the loans to engage in activities that can make them self-sustainable. Most of the events that the childhoods can indulge include farming, small businesses such as selling of small domestic animals and even being a Hawker. When an individual has something to do however little it can be, it is important, as that is the first step of an individual being self-sustainable. The micro loans given to the people to start their own business take a large sum of cash and, it is essential to fund BRAC in order to continue reaching more youths that can engage in self-sustainability programs aimed at developing the nation and eradicating poverty.
All the four organizations are significant to ending poverty in the globe but the one that is worth funding, is BRAC based on the nature of its operation and how it helps the society in preventing poverty.
