Heather Artinian is a twelve years old girl, whose parents has decided to give a girl a chance to hear and to explore the amazing possibilities of this ability. Nevertheless the fact that they were against to opt the implant device because it was considered to be a painful procedure the girl received the cochlear implant at the age of nine and the closest person who supported the girl’s desire were her grandma and Mrs.Pearsall who was right there when the girl needed her. Now her deaf mother and two her siblings also have cochlear implants. The girl has quickly adopted to hearing the world, she studies in mainstream Middle school, and she is the only child deaf child with an implant in her class. All her classmates knew that the girl was deaf and that she could do mistakes while she was speaking or she did not always understand what they asked her. But the girl managed to overcome her fear, started speaking and leading the normal life like an ordinary people.Her hearing problem are not a problem anymore, the girl interacts with hearing peers, they spend time together by playing all kind of ball games and perfectly functions in hearing the world. While watching the movie, we can notice how the girl learns to speak, she pays close attention to companion’s lips and tries to understand the language through the lip reading. Heather is a brilliant example to all children who live in a deaf community. Basically, she is an example, that shows which possibilities an implant has opened for her, and her dad Peter is happy that he made a right decision to opt it, as Heather is free to move between the two cultures, the hearing, and deaf culture without any obstacles.
