Business Consulting – Bill’s Restaurant
Bill has desired to track daily and weekly expense to manage the monthly expenditure. In order to do so, Bill has developed a spreadsheet containing the date, expense heads, and daily total expenditure, receipts required and total expenses. Bill has to perform the following tasks in order to get desired results:
In order to get the total expenses for each day in the column F of the worksheet, Bill has to place a formula of SUM (firstColumn:lastColumn) against each cell in the column F to get daily expenses. For instance, Bill has to place a formula of SUM(B5:E5) at the cell F5. And similarly at the cell F6, Bill has to place a formula of SUM(B6:E6) till the SUM(B11:E11) at the cell F11.
In order to get the total expenses for each of the expense head / category, Bill has to place a formula of SUM(B5:B11) at the cell B13. Similarly, Bill has to place the same formula but with diverse arguments at the cell C13 through E13, SUM(C5:C11) through SUM(E5:E11).
Bill has to place a formula IF(F5>=100, "YES", "") in the column G to remind him regarding the receipts, if the total daily expense is greater than $100. This formula should be replicated to the column G with the different cell names that is F6 till F11.
As the business of the Bill is keep on expanding, therefore, Bill has to recruit new employees as well as procure requisite hardware. The new computers of the employees should be connected either by wireless or wired local area network. Both the computer networking options have own pros and cons. The implementation of the wired local area network can provide the benefits include security, reliability, control and speed. Whereas, the benefits of implementing the wireless LAN include but are not limited to easy installation and management, comparatively less cost, and performance. As the business of Bill is not expanded and limited to only two or three computers and keeping in view the scenario of the Bill’s business and benefits of both networking options, it is recommended that Bill should implement wireless LAN. Some of the major reasons for recommending the wireless technology include, the less cost, easy installation and management. In order to implement wireless technology, Bill requires internet connection, broadband modem and wireless router (Gookin, 2015).
After deployment of the computer network, the major concern for Bill is to consider the information security plan. The following are the major concerns Bill required to consider for safety and security of the computer network (Cross, 2013):
Attack of virus, malware and DDoS. In order to avoid the attack, Bill is required to install an appropriate antivirus (Symmantics, Avast, Kasper, etc.) and update the antivirus software regularly.
Vulnerability to steal information from the employees. Bill is required to follow the process of authentication (utilization of password) and authorization (information access control).
Password Catastrophe. Bill is required to implement strong password consists of at-least eight (8) characters including capital and small alphabets, at-least one digit and one special character.
Physical Security Vulnerability. In order to physically secure the computer system, Bill is required to place the computer systems in a locked and secured room.
Information Eavesdropping. Bill has to utilize encryption and decryption algorithms to avoid the information eavesdropping.
