Notably, the 21st century has seen major revolutions in terms of industrialization, a fact that has seen many individuals and corporates alike competing to fit in the aggressive dynamic world. Such efforts have led to many industries utilizing the latest technologies in trying to have a competitive advantage over their rivals. The benefits from such actions cannot be underwritten, however, in as much as there are benefits which are associated with utilizing such technologies, there have been concerns about the impact that such moves have on the environment (UPHE, 2016). Concerns about global warming and chronic diseases affecting individuals have been making headlines every other day. Therefore, I have chosen the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPHE) as my area of concentration since it is concerned with the health of the people living in Utah which is related to the state of the environment.
A lot of evidence has been pointing to an unhealthy environment as the major reason why persons in this state have been exposed to many diseases from time immemorial. A lot of medical literature posits that there has been evidence showing that chronic diseases have been on the increase in individuals exposed to air pollution and more particularly to particulates suspended in the air (UPHE, 2016). In this direction therefore, the main policy issue of the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment organization is directed at the protection of the health and the well-being of the Utah citizenry through the promotion of science-based learning and interventions which are aimed at having a progressive and measurable improvement in the Utah environment. As such, this organization is at the forefront in coming up with recommendations on the required legislations and policies which have to be adhered by the owners of processing factories and presenting them to the relevant authorities which in this case is the Utah state government for considerations and approvals(UPHE, 2016).
The issue of environmental cleanliness is of major importance to Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment since from the researches that have been carried out by the physicians aligned to the organization, conditions of increased unclean air particulate in the Utah skies have been associated with increasing coronary and cerebrovascular diseases in Utah residents (UPHE, 2016). Additionally, many studies which show a relationship between public and air quality point out that the state of Utah has got the highest levels of unclean air particulates (UPHE, 2016). Such issues have led to increasing morbidity case in terms of asthma and pneumonia. As such, the Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment is cared about the wellbeing of the Utah citizenry and is therefore at the forefront in fighting for a clean air in the Utah state. The organization aims at ensuring that the health of this citizenry is on check in order to check on the healthcare costs involved and the economic effects that the unclean environment is likely to have.
Concerning the recommendations on the current policy issue about air cleanliness, then UPHE is also at the forefront in involving the public in the process too. This process has been made possible by the fact that there are plans in place that oversee the proper documentation is availed to have the members of the public give their comments concerning the whole issue and provide meaningful feedback concerning the process (Clayburgh, 2015). This effort is directed at having the public become proactive in the policy formation process. On a personal level, such efforts are directed at having policies that are focused on having a clean state for the citizens to stay in. it is important since it makes the citizens approach the social issues that affect their wellbeing.
