The presentation of my DNP project with stakeholders is important since their contribution is necessary for the accomplishment of the project. By definition, stakeholders are described as individuals or group of individuals who are interested in engaging in problem-solving activities and researches especially in the field of health care. It has been acknowledged that the involvement of stakeholders greatly contribute to the improvement of the results of the research. Moreover, the findings are also ensured to be relevant to the concerns of the stakeholders and are applicable in the real world (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2014; Mori, 2010).
Systematic reviews refer to the plan and strategy which is considered to be detailed, thorough and comprehensive when compared to other narrative reviews. The aim of systematic reviews is the production of papers with reduced bias. The reduction of bias can be achieved by effective identification, appraisal, and synthesis of all of the important and significant topics regarding the topic (Uman, 2011).
With my DNP project being focused on the lack of vaccination among the elderly Hispanic population, the main stakeholders that should be considered are the health professionals responsible for handling the elderly Hispanic population along with the patients and their relatives. Since not all of the patients and their relatives are knowledgeable of the basic terminologies and medical terms used by health professionals, some of the modifications of the systematic review that can be done to make my project more interesting especially during presentation and sharing of my DNP project with stakeholders may include usage of plain language to make the study comprehensive and interesting to the stakeholders (Uman, 2011). The revision of the wordings and terminologies into layman’s terms can help the stakeholders to thoroughly understand the research process along with the results of the study. Their understanding of the research and its results is important since they can be given the chance to express their concerns, comments, and suggestions regarding the DNP Project.
Another modification may include provision of summary guides which can be used by consumers, clinicians, and the policy makers. Some of the main components of the summary guides include strengths and limitations of the research evidence that has been provided, the different interventions that are backed up by appropriate evidences, the presence of tradeoffs during the various decision-making processes, and even the information regarding medications or vaccinations. The development of summary guides is one of the recommended recommendations of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to ensure the participation of the different stakeholders on the dissemination of the research findings (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, 2014).
Other modifications of the systematic review for the presentation to the stakeholders is the simplification of the project as a whole. The presentation for the stakeholders should only focus on the important aspects and results of the systematic review. Also, wordy presentations should be avoided. It is important to keep the stakeholders interested by incorporating them into the presentation as a whole. Statements, comments, and suggestions may be asked from the stakeholders to help them better understand the results of the DNP project. It will also help if they are given the opportunity to give possible policies and modifications in the healthcare system to address the lack of vaccination among the elderly Hispanic population. By incorporating them in the discussion and presentation, they will be able to feel their importance in the accomplishment of the DNP project (Schoenwald & Hoagwood, 2001).
