Stalingrad Movie Review

Created in 1993 this movie is considered to be one of the greatest modern works about World War II. The director of the film is a talented German director Joseph Vilsmaier, known for “Autumn milk”, “The last Train” and other movies. The producers are Hanno Huth and Günter Rohrbach.
The cast includes Thomas Kretschmann (as Lt. Hans von Witzland), Dominique Horwitz (as Obergefreiter Fritz Reiser), Jochen Nickel (as Manfred Rohleder ) ,Dana Vavrova (as Irina) and others.
The story of the film depicts the bloody events of the wartime that took place on the Eastern Front with a group of German soldiers who were sent to fight in the East. Enjoying the vacation in sunny Italy after the return from North Africa, the soldiers do not imagine how cardinally their life will change in several minutes. Right from the ceremony they are dismissed and directed to Russia to fight for the Hitler.
Face- to face meeting with death reveals the weaknesses of the human nature, no matter how strong the person may appear. Most of Von Witzland’s soldiers are killed, others are greatly demoralized by the tortures of war.
Von Witzland interrogates a Russian woman named Irina , who later makes an escape. The two meet again sometime later in the film when Witzland finds her in German sexual slavery in a hidden warehouse. Irina agrees to help the German soldiers to find their safe way to freedom, but is been accidently killed by the Soviet forces. Both Von Witzland and Reiser freeze to death.
The idea of the movie is to show the paradox and nonsense of The War that took away millions of human lives. The sorrow caused by this international evil has ruined souls, not only bodies, and films like this help people to better understand this issue.
