I have dreamed of becoming a WTU Cadre member since I left my position at the Theater Patient Movement Requirements Center – Europe where I served as a Patient Movement Coordinator (2009-2013). It was at the peak of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and my position at the Center gave me an opportunity to witness the transition process of wounded warriors. The transition procedure consisted of several stages, viz. being at the flight line with buses waiting for air-evacuation flights to arrive from Al Udeid, transporting patients to Landstuhl, stabilizing them, and taking the service members back to the MTF/WTU stateside to receive care. I felt I was lucky to be involved in the process of transporting wounded service members safely back to their families and friends.
The only thing that I always wondered was what happened to the service member(s) once they were back home. Being a Cadre member would allow me to see the final stage in the process of wounded service member transportation and their coming back to normal life. I know that being a WTU Cadre member involves working long hours, taking care of soldiers, and having a number of other responsibilities. But I am ready for the challenge and feel that I will really be able to make a difference in soldiers’ lives. As far as my personal and professional qualities are concerned, I can say that I am a soldier who has integrity, easily adapts to changes, and can be counted on in any situation. No matter what position I held, I always strived to be the best soldier I could. All I ask now is for an opportunity to serve our wounded warriors as a Cadre member. I feel I owe to them for all the things they have done by serving and protecting me.
