Having grown up in Russia, and having spent much of my childhood traveling to countries all around Europe (like Spain, Egypt, Turkey, and more), I have been raised to have a very continental, open-minded and free-thinking spirit. While in high school, I gave tennis lessons to children and seniors, which helped me get in touch with my community. At the same time, I became interested in psychology and sociology, and the ways communication can affect others. To that end, I chose to come to the United States in the spring of 2012 to attend East Carolina University, majoring in psychology. While there, I have learned quite a lot, and spent some time as part of the ECU tennis team; I also tutor and work in the university counseling center. Both during my childhood and in the United States, I have seen the effects of discrimination and prejudice on people, and chose to dedicate myself to finding private and public solutions to these social problems.
My short-term and long-term goals play a large part in my decision to apply for this program. My immediate plans are to earn an MA in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and enter the workforce to find a suitable position that befits my extensive training. I also wish to build a good base of work experience from which to draw when I work with individuals and organizations alike. My eventual goals are to work within the corporate sector, working with large international companies to improve their communication, develop anti-discrimination policies and improve productivity. I would ideally love to work with an alliance of international companies, performing research in the aforementioned areas.
