Special Education instructors require many virtues, including patience, persistence, and adaptability. My undergraduate degree from The College of Education at King Saud University of Riyadh has prepared me for many academic and professional challenges. Following graduation I volunteered at a specialist hospital, organizing and coordinating support for children with Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder and their families. After this experience I worked as a teacher in the private and public school systems of Saudi Arabia, where I continued to gain experience working with special education children and attending to their families needs and concerns.
Having been exposed to the vulnerable population of special education children, I became more deeply interested in the scientific background of their disabilities. I researched the current therapeutic approaches that should be taken with impacted families and eventually this led to my interest in studying in the United States. Arriving to America because of it’s greater experience in special education, I set myself towards the goal of my Masters Degree in Special Education, concentrating in Autism from the College of Education and Human Services at University of North Florida.
My professional goals are to provide excellent care and services to children that have special education needs. My approaches must be tailored to each child, and in order to mold an adult that has much independence as possible. Each child has a potential for growth and development, and special education children require different approaches to learning. It is possible for them to live autonomous, productive lives, given appropriate guidance and education. My desire to enter the PhD program in Special Education stems from having learned in the classroom, and experienced in the professional world, what progress can be made for these children.
