This short story basically surrounds the lives of two siblings, Timmy and Tamara. Timmy is older than Tamara and seems to be a very active and adventurous boy. From the onset of their conversation, he sees Tamara as a nagging type of a younger sister because she probes him so much because she wants to join him in his adventures. But in all these, there are two themes that are prominent throughout their conversation and adventure. These are the themes of love and ambition.
Timmy happens to love his sister so much and the same can be said about Tamara. When she notes something weird about her brother, she is eager to know what it is. She follows him up and when Timmy feels that it is no point having her with him, she probes him and finally he allows her to tag a long despite her young age and the fact that she is a girl and should not be as outgoing and as adventurous as he is. Tamara on the other part is protective of him and it is clear that he answers for him whenever their father asks about Timmy. Timmy also happens to love his pet kiwi birds so much that it hurts him when he realizes that they have been killed.
The theme of ambition is also evident in the story as seen through both Timmy and Tamara. Timmy wants to go out on his adventures even when they know that it is wrong to go to the fields all by himself. Tamara also wants to join him and convinces Timmy so much that he allows her go with him.
It was not very difficult identifying the themes that ran through the story. This is because they are the main ideas around which the story was built. I did not spend so much time thinking on what the possible themes could be like because it is a story I wrote from my heart and I own the details too. It was a good encounter because it has taught me about what to look at when looking for themes in any story.
