Occupational health and safety strategies can be identified as one of the primary objectives to be maintained at the human resources management level. In order to define workplace safety, it would be the responsibility of the management to deploy effective strategic safety program so that the employees attached to the organization can work safely. Primarily, the safety programs have been developed to deal with unsafe employee actions and unsafe working condition. In the case of designing a proper strategic safety program, the organization must make it sure that the safety planning must fulfill all the requirement of overall employee safety, health, and wellness (Decker, 2010). In this particular paper, the role of strategic safety program has been presented showing the impact of the program on employee’s safety, health and welfare.
In order to optimize the effectiveness of strategic safety program, the focus of the design of the planning can be recognized as one of the fundamental requirement. Meanwhile, there are four major elements of a workplace strategic safety program such as management leadership and involvement of the staffs, workplace analysis, hazard prevention and control and health and safety training facilities and programs. In order to tackle any unsafe employee activities within the workplace environment, the leadership of the management and the human resources must develop an effective communication channel to reduce any issues that can lead to unsafe situations. In addition to that, the written safety policy and regulations must be actively followed by the employees to avoid any unnecessary safety issues (Cagno, Micheli, & Perotti, 2011). Secondly, the workplace environment must be analyzed effectively to identify the potential workplace hazards. By determining the operational size and number of organizational members, fundamental safety and health measures must be included to carry out the work without any errors. Meanwhile, significant, design can lead to better productivity ensuring employee safety and security. In a case of hazard prevention, regular and thorough maintenance of the vehicles and types of machinery must be done to avoid any mishap. Apart from that, employees must use protective gear and equipment so that safety measures can be ensured (Kaufman, 2012). Last but not the least, health and safety training programs can be identified as one of the main focuses of the strategic safety program so that employees can be trained to deal with emergency preparedness situations. By promoting the awareness to the potential workplace hazards, management can influence their employees to work under a safe workplace environment.
In order to define the economic impact of a safety program, one must mention that there are several benefits attached to this particular move. Proficient and effective health and safety programs can reduce the number of workplace accidents, fatalities, injuries and employee illness cases. As the modern organizations are liable to compensate any workplace injury or health illness caused by workplace safety reasons, significant safety and health programs can reduce such cost of compensation and medical expenses. Realizing the economic benefits of workplace health and safety programs, management of modern organizations has seen workplace safety planning as investment perspectives so that it can reduce the accidental costs and increase the productivity of the workplace (Elgstrand, 2001). On a practical basis, health and safety programs control the workplace injuries and fatalities at the highest standards reducing the compensation as well as medical costs.
An effective strategic safety plan can show organizational transparency and responsibility towards the employees. Tactical preventive strategies have efficiently reduced the stress from the organizational human resources so that high standard of productivity can be ensured. In terms of employee health and safety concerns, most of the employees can be highly influenced if the company can produce effective workplace health and safety programs. Furthermore, the effective strategic safety program can make the employees more responsible for protecting their safety and health within the workplace environment. Significant training facilities can help to identify the potential workplace hazards and the technique to avoid the same at the professional level. Meanwhile, effective occupational strategic health and safety plan can increase the productivity and financial status of an organization reducing the number of safety concerns and issues.
