Critique Report healthfinder.gov ‘‘National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – NCHS’’
The ‘‘Welcome to National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – NCHS’’ website has strengths and weaknesses in its access, design and content. To make this report simple and easy to understand I have separated the strengths and weaknesses for each of the three factors mentioned above.
Strengths:
The website http://healthfinder.gov/orgs has complex graphs and tables, and yet it is quick and fast to open
The site is intuitive and any computer user will find it easy to access the needed health information
The site has elaborate table of content, clear and precise text only areas and easy to follow texts which are both detailed for publics and professionals.
The website is small in capacity thus it do not need large amount of modem space making it easy for people to load and use.
Weaknesses:
The website has well listed sites, but they direct people to other links which needs more information to redirect the public and professionals to another index table. In other words it is time consuming, because you’ll have to go to another index table after giving more information.
The website does not give detailed guides before the links as well as any necessary vital instructions.
Furthermore, there are some few links that take longer to open because of the extensive graphics. In fact, this page just takes longer to load yet it doesn’t have detailed texts for users, just large graphics but little texts.
Strengths and Weaknesses for Content
The homepage has got contents and links which are good for the entire users and they hardly lead computer users to questionable sites.
Lots of the pages are very easy for the professionals and publics to use since they are very simple and easy to read and understand by all intended audience.
In the home page and the subsequent link pages, there are no any spelling, grammar or orthographic mistakes and errors. In deed, in all pages reviewed, there was no dead links found or out dated links noted.
In addition, in the footer section, there is information for all the users on the specific dates the sites were updated.
Weaknesses:
Although the contents are good for all audiences, there is the use of acronyms and abbreviations like NCHS which may make it difficult for general public to understand. Moreover, there is no dictionary to inform the general public on the unfamiliar terms and abbreviations.
Strengths and Weaknesses of Design
Strengths:
The site has information index for the general public which is very is to use for all audiences particularly the general public.
Some links are easy and precise to read since it has detailed titles and educative bulleted points.
Weaknesses:
There is so much unused space and this prompts the computer users to scroll for longer in order to access information.
Summary
In overall, the website http://healthfinder.gov/orgs has lots of information that is good for the public, as they give essential education in interesting ways. However, some of the information is only intended for professionals and this makes it difficult for the general public to understand such kind of information. Nevertheless, the NCHS deserve credit for such appealing and interesting site for everyone including visitors.
