Introduction
Stress is something that is part of our everyday lives. We stress about almost everything from school, work, children, our spouse/partners, and many other important things. This is something that is unavoidable but treatable.
I would say that my daily stressors are being in college and also having to prove that I am worthy to my parents. College can be hard at times and with many deadlines and assignments due all around the same time, my stress levels rise. While my family only wants the best for me, I can't help but to imagine that I'd let them down if I ever failed college or didn't get into a career field that'll help me financially.
Coping Skills
I have been researching a couple of coping mechanisms for dealing with stress because too much stress can hurt you. I've learned that getting more sleep can help reduce stress as well as practicing good posture which also seems to help with my confidence. Most importantly, I've been training myself to worry less, stay positive, and think more positive thoughts (2002).
Theories of Emotion
Whenever I am dealing with negative emotions, I'll always remember the James-Lange theory which is when emotion isn't caused by the idea of an event but by the response to that event (2010). It'll help me remember that whether my stress levels rise or not depends on how I react to whatever is trying to stress me out.
