Structural Changes In My Writing Essay Template For Faster Writing

Learning to write adequately is one of the most important processes a person may go through in his or her life. This is not limited to the movement of the hands in order to write or type words; knowing how to put them together to form an adequate and coherent whole is also very significant. As such, I consider that this class has aided me in this endeavor, as I have significantly enhanced the quality of my writing. I now consider my writing at the beginning of the class to be very poor, especially in terms of structure and clarity. Nevertheless, this course gave me many pointers and tools that have helped me make my writing better. I now feel that my texts are more coherent and have better structure, allowing me to transmit my message in a much clearer way. However, I know that I still have much to learn, and that it is up to me to both keep improving my writing as a whole, and in my field in particular, which will be Business. This course has significantly helped my writing abilities, giving me skills to go from a mediocre writer to a good one and beyond.
Before taking this course, my writing skills were precarious, especially in terms of structure and coherence. It is now e3vident to me that these are two of the most important qualities of good writing, yet I did not take them into account at the time. Basically, I wrote as I talked, without taking the time to think about the logical flow of the statements that I wrote down.
I feel that I did more or less know how to structure a paragraph. For example, in one of my first essays, “Human Population”, all of the paragraphs had a topic sentence at the beginning, yet they lack concluding or summary paragraphs. They frequently ended with sources or with ideas that needed to be developed, such as, “Moreover, countries can also regulate the number of children each family can support or give birth to (Botkin and Keller 74)” (LastName, “Human” 3). I know now that this is something that I would have to expand on and tie up in such a way so as to close the paragraph. Therefore, even though my paragraphs were not perfect, this elemental structure was more or less there.
However, knowing how to decently write a paragraph is not the only important structural aspect of the text, as they also need to be put together adequately. It was this that my essays were most lacking. I did not even know how to write a proper thesis. One can see this in my essay “Billionaires and Worker Rights” where there is nothing in the first paragraph that even attempts to disclose my main idea; all I did was state what I would argue later through different sentences. This would be another aspect that I needed to work on, as I would string the ideas together without considering their logical sequence. As one can see, I did not know how to set up a proper overreaching structure for the text.
However, I have considerably changed in both of these areas, giving my essays much better structure through their paragraphs. For example, I finished the fourth paragraph of the essay “Georgia Font”, by recalling the first sentence, which stated that the font evoked feelings, and developing what these sentiments were: “It encourages the feel that writing not only came a long way but is also impactful” (LastName 2). This not only recapitulated the whole paragraph, but also allowed the reader to close the idea in order to move on to the new one.
Furthermore, I have learned to write and employ a thesis statement in order to guide the reader through this logical progression in my texts. Before, I did not do this, not giving the reader a clear idea of what they could expect from the beginning. Nevertheless, I learnt the importance of this tool, something that one can see in “Georgia Font”, where I wrote, “Many publishers, both print and digital, use Georgia font in most cases because of its clarity and appeal” (LastName 1). This showed the principal idea of the paper, which was the reasoning behind the usage and popularity of this collection of letters.
Nevertheless, I have to confess that I thought my writing to be excellent before starting this course. Having never been much of a reader, I did not have the necessary instruments and points of comparison to realize that my texts were not up to par. This is one of the most important facets of my learning, as it was not just a momentary obtainment of knowledge, but one that will always allow me to enhance my skills. Knowing what good writing actually looks like is very important in order to set it as a goal for myself, in order to improve my texts.
I have to admit that all of these changes provoked a very special and warm reaction on my behalf. Having seen the changes in my texts due to this course really made me feel proud of myself, and I have to say that I am very pleased with these accomplishments. It makes me feel very good to know that, through work and dedication, one can develop this type of skill.
I am sure that this will be useful in the future, even though I want to study business at college. Many people could think that this is not an important skill for businessmen. Nevertheless, I believe that it is, because it aids the person in handling him or herself with texts, which would be useful when trying to transmit a message, making business relationships and transactions, among many other significant activities. Furthermore, and more directly, it will help me when writing reports and other types of transmission of information and findings. Even though they may not have a direct, evident correlation, I believe that improving my writing will truly help me to be a better businessman.
In conclusion, this course has helped me improve my writing, especially in terms of structure and coherence, which will allow me to be a better professional in the future. Before taking this course, I had only a makeshift notion of how to write a paragraph and there was no logical continuity throughout my text. Nevertheless, through this course I enhanced my writing style, learning how to write thesis statements and structure my essays in a logical way, so that the reader could comprehend more easily what I was trying to transmit. This has deeply pleased me, and I have gained instruments to keep making my texts better in the future, which will certainly help me when I study business. Writing is not a simple task, yet I believe that one can learn to do it well through hard work.
