Poverty and Gender
The article “Gender is just one of many inequalities that generate poverty and exclusion” by Claire Melamed represents the author’s vision of the global gender inequality problems and its impact on poverty occurrence around the world. When discussing the evidence of dividing and uniting people around the world, the author emphasizes the inequality issues consideration within the millennium development goals (MDG) maintaining. The global political, economy and social leaders’ plans aimed at finding solutions regarding poverty, shortage and social inequality overcoming. However, despite the post-2015 debates, gender inequality and its direct impact on poverty are apart from the major conversations. According to the author, women are not the privileged part during high-level policy debates (“Gender is just one of many inequalities that generate poverty and exclusion”). Providing the statistical information, Melamed proves that basically both women and men of different ethnic groups in minority suffer from inequality and poverty. For instance, in Africa, young girls are more likely to be infected by HIV when poor boys from Bangladesh are less likely to go to school (“Gender is just one of many inequalities that generate poverty and exclusion”). Consequently, the authors find the two key ways of solving the problems – greater and opener debates and changing the direction of global conversations involving the significant point of the gender inequality as a poverty source.
As for me, the major aim of the research is to pay the global society attention to the significant gender issues and provide the sufficient proofs of the harmful conditions women and men meet every day, especially in the undeveloped countries. I completely agree with the author’s point of view. Nowadays, regardless of applying the global society efforts concerning the solution of poverty and social inequality problems, the number of people from the poorest areas as African or Asian countries that suffer from the lack of food, water, secure accommodation and educational, and development abilities is on the increase. By the reason of the cultural and ethics distinguishing, both women and men live in the conditions out of acceptable. The high level of male mortality due to the terrible work conditions and maternal mortality caused by the inappropriate medical care that in its turn caused by the poverty problems demand the advanced level of the global society concerning. Accordingly, it is significant to adjust the course of investigations, debates and conversations in order to find the solutions, and implement the effective measures for maintaining gender, ethical and class equality and free access to the economic, political and sociological development achievements.
