Nathan DeWall
I have never thought of self-control as the key thing to health, success and wealth, but Nathan DeWall with this outstanding research proves its importance. Self-control helps develop inner strength that is useful in building relationships, being productive and reaching goals. The main thing about self-control is its capacity to override impulses, hide emotions and respond appropriately to any situation that we face. A person who is good at self-control will never happen to experience inner conflict of motivations, and it is required in setting priorities. Moreover, he or she may seem more intelligent than his or her peers, as self-control provides confidence.
I also realized that effective self-control can be achieved through thorough monitoring of thoughts, emotions, and actions. An impulsive person can hardly achieve heights in business. Secondly, it is important to establish your own rules and principles, and adhere to them. They help in avoiding difficult situations, when it is hard to decide how to behave. People with self-control skills also have the strength to deal with outside influences and prevent them from affecting too much. Therefore, self-control requires many efforts from a person, while contributing a lot to his or her success.
Fortunately, self-control can be improved and developed. Those who believe in the power that self-control gives to a person should learn how to use its potential. I strongly believe that monitoring mental energy is not only beneficial for self-control, but for a person’s health as well. Self-control strength can also be enhanced by making oneself leave a comfort zone and take actions that are in part uncomfortable or undesirable. In addition, changing environment in the way that facilitates achieving a set goal is also necessary. However, I would add that careful planning and analysis of every action can also develop self-control skills. Therefore, self-control is about teaching one’s brain to work the way which is beneficial and productive.
