Today, the average student from any part of the world is given the possibility to study outside of his country. Everyone knows about this fact, but only the most active and ambitious students take their chance.
I always had a dream to study abroad, but it always seemed to me very complicated to start the process and define my goals and directions to follow. But one day, I woke up and decided I could do better and achieve more. I felt strong and smart enough to make my dream come true. Why do I need this at all? Well, this step in my life will be a serious point of achieving both personal and professional goals that I have.
As a future interior architect, I am sure that study abroad will significantly broaden the horizons of my world outlook and let me look at my profession on the other end of the spectrum. I am sure that these points are the most important and make the person significant and special in his professional area. I can’t but mention that I am deeply interested in experiencing an academic system of another country because it gives an opportunity to estimate your work from another angle. Study abroad can offer the knowledge of norms and cultures of another state and its educational system.
Though I have a lot of friends and beloved people in my native country, I would love to meet new people in general and especially my colleagues. Exchange of experience and all the kinds of interactions is a great opportunity to learn and to share your culture with others. I am particularly interested in getting to know about how foreign people of my age, interests and professional goals live and what dreams they have.
I am sure that education abroad grows faster than education at home. It’s a well-known fact that in every stressful situation (and living abroad is always a little bit of a stress for a person), the brain works better and faster. While you live and learn in your host culture, you become a sponge that absorbs the enormous amounts of information and new skills. Everything that will demand a lot of time for learning when at home, will get automatically into your mind without even noticing it. It concerns the language, the culture in general and the definite professional points.
Another professional benefit of study abroad is the exposure to new ideas and philosophies. We all know that the best specialist is the one who knows his job from every side. One has to borrow the world’s best practices to know oats. So what can be better than learning the subject abroad? In another country, you start to understand diverse cultures and your world becomes more colorful and wide, because you get not only academic but also intellectual enrichment. Very often, the exposure to academic content is not available on the home campus.
The experience of study abroad is an enormous plus to your resume. The employer is always interested in a candidate who has seen more and knows something that the average candidate doesn’t. Plus, if the country where you want to study is more developed and rich, the level of education is always higher, so you are priori a more attractive candidate.
Certainly, being far from home teaches the person adaptability. This skill will be helpful both in life and at work. You learn how to communicate with people of another set of mind and coexist with another culture and traditions. And here, it bears mentioning that personal goals of the study abroad play another very important part of my decision.
First of all, for me, this step is a serious evidence of my self-confidence and ability to take risks. Usually, people who are well informed of their opportunities don’t take their chances because of the fear. When there is a risk of a failure, it is especially difficult to take guts and make the first step. It is hard when no one of your friends experienced it, and you are going to be a pathfinder. So I am pretty sure that if I can do this, I will be able to do even more in the future. When overcoming something little, you become confident that nothing is impossible.
I have a great desire to learn a new language, and not only because my dream is to speak and to read books of my favorite writers in the original, but also because it can be useful for me at my future work. The employee knowing some foreign language is always more much-in-demand. In future, I would be able to work abroad or in the foreign company homeward. By all means, study of a foreign language is a big plus for the brain activity and the intellectual development.
Abroad, I will get the opportunity of the exposure to the global issues facing my industry, namely interior architecture. I will change my perspective and make an enormous contribution to my personal growth and development. Of course, I would love to make new friends because new people supply a person with new information and contribute to his mentality.
And the last but not least is expanding my comfort zone to enhance my ability to interact in unfamiliar situations. When I leave my comfort zone, I will bring positive changes to my life. Everyone has a fear of the unknown, but when one encounters it, he overcomes his fear of the unknown. It is definitely one of my goals.
