Over the past years, universities have progressively created ways to engage undergraduates in research. Research has been steadily growing as a typical component of the graduate and undergraduate curriculum. As a result, universities have slowly begun realizing the advantage of students gaining experiences in research as they venture abroad. Today, many institutions are giving their students the opportunity to study abroad (Wendy, 26).
A student’s experience of studying abroad is more prominent from the traditional college experience since it constitutes a more intense and higher level of experiential learning. Simply doing some internet research and flipping through a book is not sufficient to comprehend the host culture. Rather, taking classes in local institutions, engaging local individuals and familiarizing with people’s culture in the host country facilitate the students to gain the insight to embark on extracting the fundamental nature of the host culture. For this reason undergraduates who undertake a research project while abroad are in a position to think more critically than if they were merely engaging in coursework abroad or traveling overseas. Undertaking a research abroad presents a perfect opportunity to engage in the exciting search for answers or learn about academic inquiry in a self driven and independent way as hopeful scholars. Nevertheless, engaging in educational discovery in the context of a prepared research project comes with a range of responsibilities and risks to both the hosts and their students. Professionals on the host country ought to give careful thought to these concerns. Students necessitate the preparation that universities can offer before they can perform their research ultimately and responsibly in a satisfactory way for all those who are involved.
Research should not be a necessity to every student because the study may not be suitable for every type of program. Students who search for an opportunity to expand their academic prospects through independent inquiry, carrying out research abroad can leave a lasting impression and be extremely rewarding. This should benefit the students and their sending institutions,. When the research is prepared properly, Meaningful and Rigorous research can be produced appropriately supported, and carefully monitored, and in the end worth recognizing and potentially meaningful.
Many students a times do not have sufficient funds to travel abroad. Therefore to studying abroad is good opportunity for them (Citron, 19). If a scholar postulates a foreign institution of higher education he will have a higher possibility of choosing it among others. For instance if a student is interested in antique culture, he/ she can choose a university located in Europe, This would give him/her an opportunity to visit a lot of places with paint, art, history and etc. So, depending on the interests of a certain student, one can choose a different place depending on the area of study.
While students are being encouraged to carry out research overseas by leading voices and organizations, there are still structures and guidelines available to guide students in carrying out their research abroad successfully and responsibly. Given the importance that practitioners and educators in other fields attach to undergraduates who wish to carry out their research abroad, it is important to consider the level of oversight that ought to be presented for that research. At a minimum, it is significant that the field of studying abroad should carefully consider all of the innumerable risks, responsibilities, and opportunities a student encounter while studying abroad
