Every day is filled with communication. We are human being and we have a basic need for interacting with other people (according to Maslow as well as other scientists). We do it every day. Today was no different for me. My morning as usually started with a simple conversation with my roommate. The cloths and the atmosphere was very loose and casual. In this kind of atmosphere I think I’m completely relaxed as I know I’m not being judged. My roommate is a close friend of mine and she is always ready to listen to me, no matter what I say or how I say it. That is why I feel completely free to speak whatever I want and however I want, without thinking of any standards that I might have to follow. This is not the case at the university.
The first thing that comes to mind when I get ready for class is the way I look. It will inevitably effect my communication with other, because no matter what I say, they will look at me and judge me from the way I look and speak. I always try to dress smartly when going to classes and don’t let myself go. My clothes are neat, even if not extremely fashionable, and I try my best to find matching accessories. But never must one forget his general appearance. Such basic things as hygiene and styled hair must be mentioned.
At the university I communicate both with my fellow students and professors. These two types of communications differ distinctly. One is more casual on topics which can range from assignments to music to weekend plans. Nevertheless, the speech is still controlled and clear. Basic rules of communication and understanding must be followed. The style communication with my professors is a lot more reserved, business-like and professional. I do not let myself ramble on and speak straight to the point. Here, communication rules must be followed to achieve the desired goal.
I believe that today was a successful communication day for me. I was able to distinguish how I should interact depending on where, when and with whom the talk was held. Everything can have an impact on the conversation. That is why it is important to look appropriately and know your place at all times. I have learned that the way I speak depends a lot on the situation I am in and on the people I’m talking to. All of these factures influence my thinking which in the end helps form my words.
