Many scholars past and present will all define poetry as to how they perceive that piece of literary art. Nemerov (2016) suggest what it means “Poetry, literature that evokes a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience or a specific emotional response through language chosen and arranged for its meaning, sound, and rhythm.”
After reading the poem by Stacey Burleson Impressions from a reader’s perspective, a sense of darkness and shyness is seen in stanza one this person wishes to be by themselves away from all the influences and what co-habituating has to offer.
Happiness is resonated as the writer personifies the garden with bright colors, which justifies smile as a mood of happiness. A moment is captured in a state of wondering and pondering and likens herself as one of Caspar David Friedrich, ruckenfigur image which is a view of a person from behind, thinking deeply about a visual scene and consuming him or herself in that particular position with the intension of getting inspired by nature and as seen by humans. An impression is also captured in the writers mind that history and what it has to offer through welled learned instructing affirms dreams and thoughts.
Comparing oneself as to being a sheet of paper plays not only with the writer but also with the readers mind allowing both to think I am just waiting for my or the opportunity to fill in my blank spaces. A chain presents itself, leaving the reader in clear wondering, it gives the view that yes she is the ties that bind, she knows what family means, and yet within that scope of things that chain can be so easily broken.
The writer denotes that she is or wants to be a totally different person. She eludes the normal facades of individuality and is reflected in each stanza of her poem.
