Introduction
iTunes is an online media store, player and app developed and distributed by Apple Inc. iTunes is used to for downloading, organizing and playing audio and video music on different gadgets such as personal computers, mobile phones, iPads, and iPods. There has been a debate on how good iTunes is to the music industry, and particularly to recording artists. Some consumers argue that iTunes increases ease in accessibility of music files, while others argue that iTunes is not favorable because one has to pay for every song on the playlist and it can be costly. From the perspective of recording artists, some argue that the iTunes service is favorable because it makes selling music easier. On the other hand, some argue that iTunes makes pirating of music easier. This paper examines these and other pros and cons of iTunes Music Store.
Conclusion
iTunes is an online service/ website that enable the downloading, organizing and playing audio and video music. The online service introduces both advantages and disadvantages from the perspective of recording artists and consumers. For consumers, accessibility to music is made easier. One does not have to worry about losing their music albums. There is also the flexibility to access music through any device. The disadvantages include downloading costs and the risk of the loss of purchased material. From the musician’s perspective, there is the advantage of increased ease in selling, distribution and marketing. The disadvantages include increased piracy and the loss of jobs for music distributors and CD manufacturers.
