8. Operation Strategy Aligned with Company Strategy:
Marriott International breaks it’s overall supply chain down into three separate supply chains. The divisions are broken down into furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), operating supplies and equipment (OS&E), and food and beverage. For each of these divisions they have there own process of supply chain. In FF&E it begins with the raw materials that it takes to build the furniture and fixture that will be inside of the hotel and its rooms. For this reason, the company is able to offer price-neutral services which are align to their competitors such as; The Hilton Hotel.
Core Competency
Also, the Company aims at handling their customers with care and respect from all over the world. This is clearly defined by Marriott creators thus making it a wonderful place to work in. Since Marriot is divided into several departments, all this is meant to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Moreover, Marriott supports its customers globally not ignoring the local communities around its environs. (Vault.com).
Strategic Framework employed.
Furthermore, Marriot International seems to have adopted the Treacy and Wierseman’s Framework. This is all meant to offer operational excellence in price categories, quality and delivery of services. The company chooses to operate under this strategic framework to ensure privacy to all the customers. This facilitates the company to have more long-term relationships with their customers making them a good choice for most. (Vault.com).
Operational Strategy Aligned with the Product
Lastly, Geographical reach is such a vital aspect to Marriot. Most of the hotels it owns and has acquired are mostly based in the USA. Though Marriott operates in majority of the states in the USA, it aims to reach other countries such as the UK, Middle-East countries, and even Australia. Also, Marriott creates several brands of the hotel to ensure that all is well for their customers all over the world.
9. Outsourced Services:
a) Current
Internal Processes:
Currently, Marriot is outsourcing applications from Oracle PeopleSoft Financial Systems. The Application is meant to help the company in managing its back-office functions. For this reason, managing of guests by the company will be relatively easy despite most of them being dispersed in various geographical locations. Moreover, the Application is highly scalable and can be easily broadened to fit its growth. This is possible since the newly acquired lodging organizations can be fit into the system without any strains.
Downstream Process in the Supply Chain:
Furthermore, the company outsources Global Human Resource Services from a firm known as Hewitt Associates. (NYSE: HEW). This is a seven-year agreement that tenders Hewitt Associates to offer services such as recruiting, relocation services, learning and development of employee services, compensation services and domestic relocation (WIRE).
b) Potential
Upstream Process in the Supply Chain:
Marriot International is looking forward to outsourcing business services to Accenture. Accenture is meant to provide accounting and finance services to Marriot International. The hospitality services offered by Marriot will all work in conjunction to Accenture. Thus, this will form the Accenture Hospitality Services (Accenture.com).
Furthermore, Accenture is meant to enhance their globalization program by hosting newly created websites for Marriot. This is intended to improve the User Experience that customers at the Marriot International Lodgings have. Also, the sites are supposed to detect geographical locations thus their clients can view all products and services and interact in their local languages (Accenture.com).
This is a Marketing Strategy that is meant to grant more customers to the Marriott International Hotels. The whole idea about websites came to realization to Marriot hotel since they realized that it can be a good channel to make them a global brand. The company’s management feels that the web channel is such a critical strategy for reinforcing its brand name and driving the international growth of the company.
