Additionally, these standards ensure that teachers have the full potential and qualifications to deliver information and impart knowledge to students. Apparently, high quality academic standards exists within the realm of education, this paper seek to offer an overview of the Common Core standards, understanding by design and finally Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching
Common Core by definition is the high-grade academic standards in English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics to ascertain that students acquire the necessary skills and knowledge prior to graduating to another grade. Common Core is imperative in maintaining high quality education owing the fact that it ensures that students acquire all that is required prior to joining college, and subsequently in pursuing their careers in the future regardless of their whereabouts.
Understanding by design developed and backed by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins entail using outcomes in developing performance assessments, designing curriculum units, and developing classroom instruction. Primarily, understanding by design closely relate its conception to the “six facets of understanding”. These include, students having the potential to interpret, explain, apply, empathize, have perspective and gain self-knowledge from what they are taught. Understanding by design ascertain that students learn what is applicable and relevant to their careers and lives.
Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching is a coherent framework that establish credible aspects of teacher’s obligations perceived effective and operational identified through insightful theoretical research and empirical studies. These aspects established through research are perceived to improve on the student learning.
Based on the definitions of the three concepts above, it is apparent that they are interconnected in the sense that the three concepts establish and identify the accredited levels and standards within the realm of education. Common Core defines the high quality educational standards in regards to English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics. Understanding by design employ the use of outcomes in developing performance assessments, designing curriculum units, and developing classroom instruction. The last concept Charlotte Danielson’s Framework is a comprehensive framework that establish the accredited aspects of teacher’s obligations perceived effective and operational identified through insightful theoretical research and empirical studies.
