It is true that the Arab Spring took the entire Middle East by a storm with all the mass support and revolutionary activities aimed at toppling the governments. The common people of the region had a number of issues for which they thought it to be best to revolt against the state authority so as to bring in a new political system that would better their lives. A close introspection of the aftermath of the Arab Spring would enable one to understand the overall positive as well as negative impact that the revolution has had on the region. Lives of many people have been affected negatively with the political instability of the region getting catapulted due to the present scenario- something that testifies to the fact that the revolution was uncalled for and has not been successful in bringing the desired change.
The Arab Spring went on to end the autocratic rules of individual kings and their governance so as to bring change. The oppressive and dysfunctional regimes were toppled by the revolution- something that can be deemed as a positive outcome of the Arab Spring. There was hope of political and social change coming after the revolution. It needs to be noted that the socio-political upheaval led to an unprecedented transformation in the lives of the people of Middle East. While the revolutionaries and the commoners envisioned a positive outcome of the uprising, a number of negative impacts can very well be identified. No doubt, the number of immigrants coming from the region has vastly increased over the span of time after the uprising. This can simply be seen as a societal marker of the tumultuous condition in the region that has led so many people leave their homeland to find a safer or better place for sustenance.
Indeed, the people of the region had hoped for a quite smooth transition to a democratic system that would be stable. However, the hopes of the people were shattered with time as the region saw an enhanced instability of governance. As time progressed, there were very deep divisions over the spread of reform and the new constitutions. In the case of Tunisia and Egypt, the society went on to become divided into secular and Islamist camps. These two opposing camps went on to fight very bitterly overly the part of religion in the domain of societal matters and politics. (Coughlin 1)
It needs to be understood that there was a distrust that had encompassed the socio-political milieu of the region. As the first free elections were executed, the differences among the leaders started to come out in the open. The Arab Spring went on to pave the way for a prolonged span of political instability. The region saw how the social, political and religious divisions that were absent in the times of the previous regimes got the scope of finding the ways of negatively influencing the society. The Arab Spring also went on to take its toll on the law and order scenario of the region in context. A large number of people have lost their lives during and after the Arab Spring due to the upheaval in the region. This can surely be taken to be one of the major negative effects of Arab Spring as it has stripped the lives of many innocent people. One might very well argue about the positive effects of the revolution that shook the Middle East from the very core, but all of these negative impacts cannot be undermined.
It would be correct to opine that Arab Spring has transformed the Middle Eastern region drastically. A huge metamorphosis has come about in the domains of society and politics after the revolution. However, the negative effects of Arab Spring have come to influence the well-being of people of the region. The negative impacts cannot be undermined as they have a resonating effect in the lives of people who have to face the wrath of fate under the circumstances.
