Given the fact that college admission essays are perceived to be the most comprehensive and accurate systems of student admission to colleges, I beg to take exception to this notion and think otherwise. This, to most people, is the brilliant idea of selection of student to a learning institution. However, it is also imperative for both scholars and education professionals worldwide to look back and rethink the whole thing. To my view, admission essays are not what they are thought to be. The reason why I think it is crucial not to use only the admission essay writing system when selecting students is because it does not offer equal opportunities to all applicants given the fact that not all students possess the proficiency of expressing themselves in written.
On the other hand, admission essays are important since they give an applicant an opportunity to define himself in written. Through admission essay writing, the administration/tor is able to assess and weigh the capability of an applicant. Application essays are also imperative when it comes to time, money and energy saving especially with students who are applying from overseas. This is helpful because one does not need to present himself personally unless he or she is invited to after the application essay has been reviewed.
As we all know, college admission usually influences young men and women to do wonderfully well when it comes to grading in order for them to secure admissions into selective colleges of their choice. Now, the truth of the matter is that there some students who do very well by achieving outstanding grades but due to their incapability to express themselves through essay writing; they are locked out of the system. Their colleagues, who perform poorly, are admitted to the same good colleges just because of their ability to present themselves better in writing.
I believe that everyone can be able to express themselves well when given a chance and that is why I believe that students should be allowed to choose the system in which they can express themselves well. Colleges should do away with this admission essay criteria for once and for all. The submission of admission essay is only a formality and it does not at all reflect any reality in all applicants. Just as they say that a diploma is just a paper, an admission essay is also just a paper and it does not justify any reality of an applicant, neither does it do an applicant any justice given the fact that it is something concise and easily forgeable. To my view, applicants or people are created differently. There are those who can do better in one-on-one interviews rather than writing while there are those who can do better in writing than practical. There are those who can personally express themselves when engaged in any form of conversation while there are those who can only express themselves in a piece of paper but when it comes to live expression, they are very poor. When I say all these, I am not condemning those who are unable to express themselves practically; my stand is that each and every person is entitled to fair sharing of opportunities.
Conclusion:
Essay writing is a good system of student selection since it saves both time and money. The reason why I take exception to this system is because it does not accommodate all bright students. Even if this system is to be maintained, amends have to be done to suit both students. For instance, applicants should be asked to produce a copy of his/her previous grades to prove that he is a perfect candidate.
