The details from both articles were used to articulate the idea. The title of the first paper is Genetically Modifying Mosquitos to Eliminate Disease, and it talks about the benefits of GMO mosquitoes in preventing diseases caused by mosquitoes. In the second paper, Are Engineered Foods Evil? the author talks about the beneficial effects of insect resistant crops. As they do not require pesticide, they are safer for human consumption. The paper also talks about the ‘yet to be proved’ harmful effects of the new protein introduced into a GMO crop. There is a lack of clarity on the harmful effects of these proteins. This section is also graded as good.
The connection between the papers are drawn in the final conclusion. GMO crops and insects can prevent harm caused by insects to plants. More emphasis is placed on the benefits of the GMO and less emphasis is placed on controversies that exist with the use of GMOs. I would rate this section as good. Placing the connection towards the end of the paper, makes it easy to draw conclusions about the theme. The paragraph connects the two articles and could be expanded further. Hence, I would grad this section as - needs improvement.
The in text citation in the paper was properly formatted as per APA guidelines. All information taken from outside sources are properly formatted and in text citation is provided. Full reference information is provided at the end of the paper. This section is also graded as good. My comment for the paper would be to improve clarity and to use own words to summarize the paper, rather than using quotations from the articles. It would be nice to avoid quotations and ‘who said what’ in the summary.
