Robbery is indeed one of the most serious crimes in the nation hence people should strive to find ways of reducing the numbers most especially in high crime areas. In my opinion, I would suggest some fundamental social changes that include the redistribution of wealth as well as deterrence and incapacitation. This change would be achieved through the creation of jobs since most of the offenders are poor and suffer from financial crises. As noted by Wright and Decker, the key element that drives people to commit robberies instead of other offenses is the pressing need for cash (Wright and Decker 5). Additionally, deterrence and incapacitation of offenders would deter them from committing further crimes. Increasing criminal penalties as well as the criminal detection rates may successfully reduce the number of robberies because the perpetrators fear to be caught and imprisoned. Therefore, it is imperative to work on reducing theft incidents for people to regain their personal freedom for the betterment of the society.

Indeed robberies exist in various types, but the fact remains that they are harmful to the society. The offenders leave the people with an intense fear of being victims leading to severe personal freedom consequences that limit their public activities (Wright and Decker 1). Besides, Wright and Decker argue that people may fear rape and murder, but robbery certainly makes people isolate themselves where they keep off the streets, avoid strangers and stay indoors (Wright and Decker 1). Additionally, robbery not only leaves its victims financially and emotionally affected but also impacts on one’s lifestyle stemming from their feelings of vulnerability. As noted by Wright and Decker, robbers do not just commit these crimes but are motivated to engage them (Wright and Decker 3). All types of robbery occur with a motive and more often than not, it is usually the pressing need for money. However, the offenders do not use the money for necessities but other illegal street actions (Wright and Decker 5). All in all, robbery has a huge impact on the society and should be addressed.
