Introduction
The industries have always battled for dominance between two or more technologies, often the well-established firms ("What Is TD-SCDMA | 3G TD-SCDMA | Radio-Electronics.Com"). In this paper, I am going to focus on the dynamic channel technology of TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access). It is named as the standard made by China, however, it holds only the 7% core patent technology and the rest is with other countries. TD-SCDMA is adopted by the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) as a 3G standard. It is not only a channel access method but also known commonly as the whole air interface specification.
Project Details
The whole system of TD-SCDMA has the following advantages.
It uses smart antenna technology and the antenna beam can be used to follow every user like SDMA.
It is a synchronous system and it can help alleviating MAI among different users, thus increasing the system budget and the capacity of the system.
It also uses dynamic channel allocation to adjust the radio resource in terms of time, code and frequency.
It is based upon spread spectrum technology.
It uses the TDD scheme, instead of the FDD scheme which was being used by W-CDMA. TDMA is also used in this technology in addition to CDMA.
There are synchronous uplink signals at the receiver and it is achieved by continuous timing slot adjustments.
It is helpful in the beamforming technique applications.
It has increased system capacity, but at the hardware cost.
Literature Review
The existing literature has identified different factors that affect the setting and diffusion of different technology standards. Coordination problems exist when there are too many buyers and too many sellers. But the development is different for TD-SCDMA as it is accepted by the ITU and is a 3 GPP standard, which is not currently seen in the market with other standards. In this paper, I will try to find the slow adoption of TD-SCDMA, despite of being a great technology.
