Article Critique
The discussion provided in the article relates to the concept discussed in the book. It is clear that the relationship between leadership and teamwork is two sided but emphasis is on the role of leadership to get work done in the most appropriate manner. As per my observation while working in an organization, leadership plays much more important role than teamwork. It is contradictory to the article as I believe that teamwork and leadership are different virtues. The article does not cover the concept of leadership role clearly. During my last professional experience, I observed that leadership has more importance in shaping up the teams and the relationship between team members. A single team member cannot perform well without team members. A strong leader can built strong team and translate mission into reality through collective efforts of team members. The author of article focuses on team and leaders equally but leader performs much challenging work than all other team members. Strong leadership can motivate a team through different practices like role model, challenge, and courage. Strong leaders are determined by different leadership qualities like communication, inspiration, values, change, and innovation. The author does not mainly focus on leadership as leaders are people who are followed by team members follow to accomplish objectives. The vision of a leader is broader than that of a team member. It is the leader’s vision that helps in directing and motivating the team and commitment of every single team member is attained. Without a leader, teamwork cannot achieve its set goals. A wide range of qualities of a good leader like sharp perception, self-assessment, competencies, personal attributes, and response to the group needs are not mentioned in this article. The author does not cover risk management as a good leader calculates the risk and runs scenarios that will help to take better decisions at the right time and at the right place. It is mentioned in the article that strong leaders build strong teams. Therefore, a strong team needs a strong leadership to perform well. Leaders should not consider themselves as simply managers or team supervisors. The author has provided some references for review. Overall, the author has used different sources to complete the research and it provides a comprehensive view of the relationship between leadership and teamwork in organizations.
