Abstract
Technology has played a crucial role in many business processes. It is a factor that has been seen to affect the manner in which transactions are carried out in businesses. One part that technology has had a significant impact is communication. There are many developments that have been seen to have taken place in communication. From the developments of the telephone, radio, TV, and now mobile phones, communications has seen tremendous changes that have affected the way communication is done. This paper will focus on the role of technology in communication.
Introduction
Technology has played a crucial role in many of the fields of human development. Technology is now used by many businesses as a competitive advantage. It is used to ensure that there is better advancement and management of business processes. Many research has been done on the impact of technology on various aspects of human development. In this paper, the researcher will look at the impact of technology on communication. Communication has had a significant impact of technology and is one of the areas where evidence is shown (Baqeri, Shiasy, & Maleki, 2012). The social media, the sophisticated gadgets that are used to communicate today and the procedures that are used to communicate today are all evident of the use of sophisticated technologies. It is a process that need to be integrated and managed in the use of communication.
Communication is a process where information is exchanged between two or more people. The process in which communication takes place is the one that helps in the enhancement of communication. It is significant to have ways in which communication can be undertaken in s simple manner. There are many innovations that have been invented to ensure that the process of communication is being done and achieved well.
Communication has a long history because of the different developments that have been associated with it. Nearly all the innovations and the technologies that have been invented today have been geared and targets at making communication an exciting and simple process. There are many issues and developments that have been done that have ensured that there is easier ways in which human beings could communicate and pass information with one another. Communication has seen many developments, from the locomotive trains, to motor-vehicles, to the current use of smart communicating devices. In 1876, Graham Bell invented the use of telephone. In 1901, there was the invention of radio with the use of radio signals. In 1947, there was the invention of cell-based approach to communication, which is the technology that helped in the invention of the cell phones. In 1963, there was the invention of the first satellite which was useful in the navigation of space. In 1976, the first personal computer was invented. By 1999, 45% of all Australians had mobile phones. In 2004, Facebook was developed, which has become the largest social network. All these technologies, are seen to be improving the way communication is carried out in the world. It is a significant process that has helped in the management of communication.
One manner in which technology has influenced communication is the speed with which communication is carried. With the use of technology, it is now very simple to pass information between two points in a short period of time. Unlike in the past where slow communication processes were used, the process is simple and faster today because of the use of information and communication technology. The social media makes the communication even more interesting. It has made communication effective because of the many places and mechanisms that are used in achieving communication. In a split of a second, one message can be sent to many people over the internet. Perhaps, the internet has made social media achievable and reachable by many.
Another aspect that technology has brought impact on the communication aspect is that of cost of communication. In the past, passing information from one point to another was costly. There were times where people had to travel to a distant pace in order to pass information. Currently, with the use of social media and the internet, information is now passed to distant places with minimum cost and with the shortest time. Accuracy is also a factor where information is now sent to recipients with utmost accuracy. People are able to get the right information with the use of technology. There are many procedures that have been done and enhanced with the use of information and communication technologies.
The efficiency of communication has also been achieved with the use of technology. It is now possible to have efficient means of communication without having to undergo long traditional means. Efficiency is now seen to be achieved with the use of electronic forms of communication. It is a form of communication which is seen to be useful in the office. In the past, communication in the office and between organizations was done through the use of memoranda. At the moment, it is no longer the case because many organizations have now implemented communication through emails. It is efficient and reliable. There is a way in which the messages can be traced back to the sender. It makes it simple for communicators to track back the communication to show how they have been done and achieved. One of the ways in which this is done is to ensure that there is better management and enhancement of communication between the different departments. With the use of electronic forms of communication, it is now possible to have both horizontal and vertical communication and achieved effectively.
Conclusion
Communication has been a significant process, both at individual and corporate level. The use of technology has been seen to be of great importance in this significant process. With the use of current means of communication, this important process has been achieved and made easier.
