CONCLUSION
Recent studies have shown that for the past decades, Seminole Industries had its share of success and failures. The company experienced its economic downfall in 2008 after reducing its factory orders from 8% in 2009 to 11% in 2010. With these losses, the company had to step up and take necessary measures to change its organizational structure in order to meet the ever-changing demands of globalization and become more competitive. Although the company was able to develop modern data center facilities to cater to the needs of their clients, it is unfortunate that the company was not able to fully utilize these facilities. Based on the recent reports, Seminole only makes use of email and Excel spreadsheets to communicate with its employees and exchange the information, despite the fact that many of its outsourcing partners have used other modern data facilities. In sum, it is recommended that in order for the company to keep its competitive advantage among other companies in the same line of business, it is best that they upgrade the information technology currently in use and make a careful analysis of the global business trends.
Seminole has been able to maintain its image of being the leading producer of complex fittings and made to order for construction equipment such as trucks and loaders. To be able to enhance its corporate image and compete in the global market, the working environment must adapt to the current trends to be at par with its competitors. The company boasts of its competitive edge which can be traced back from history. This can be attributed to its personalized service to its clients, by making it one of its successful strategies. One remarkable business strategy of the company is its people, where its branch managers have continued to live up to the expectations of their loyal clients by giving them satisfactory service.
However, one of the perceived prospective barriers of Seminole is its outdated communications systems. Based on reports, the management and staff of each branch have resorted in doing manual searching of their electronic and paper records as they do business operations across local and global sites. This kind of strategy is outdated since it will take more time and effort to manually locate the information on vendors, customers and partners to address the requests made by their customers. As a result, even the monthly reports showing facts and figures have been criticized for being inaccurate and drawing suspicion to the credibility of company records. On the other hand, the company’s outsourcing partners have been using the latest internet technology in relation to their internal communication systems which is more dependable in the submission of reports.
The main problem of Seminole is its data center is not centralized, where the common data formats are not easily accessible to the company’s key decision makers. The corporate structure is also flawed in such a way that the managers are not under direct supervision of the department heads which can cause more issues on a larger scale. As part of the recommendations to Seminole, the best way to improve its overall system by developing an IT infrastructure that focuses on the hardware and software standardization, integration of network, and, easy access to communication and control. With these improvements, Seminole will be able to compete globally and improve its quality of service to its loyal customers.
