The main problem facing the education system throughout the world has been the need to tailor makes a system that suits the mental capacities as well as the cultural and social needs of each student. The onset of technology and its massive integration into numerous education systems has gone a long way in solving this problem. In recent times, it has become apparent that the quality of education cannot only be judged by the students’ overall performance. However, on their ability to employ high standards of thinking and mental evaluation as well as their ability to apply what they have learned not only in the work place environment but also in the greater society. Studies have shown that on correct application and effective use, technology applications have been shown to support a higher order of thinking by ensuring that the students are engaged in authentic and extensively complex tasks, which lie within the collaborative learning paradigms. Studies have further shown that technology integration into the curriculum inculcates the culture of students doing research personally as opposed to waiting for the teachers to give them the correct response and this significantly boosts their problem solving abilities and techniques.
With most of today’s students being described as digital natives, coalescing technology into the education system makes them feel more at home while learning and makes them more comfortable while learning. Technology has increased the research capabilities of students from primitive research methods to proportions approaching infinity. Students now have access to limitless information that is applicable in the education environment and this is highly convenient in the event of home schooling or tutor unavailability. Studies have shown that since most students are more at home while using technology as opposed to indigenous learning methods and this increases their interests bin what they are learning. Technology makes learning not only highly informative and conclusive but also fun and interesting and this has gone a very long way in reshaping students’ perception of the education system and learning as a whole. Minimal or absolute lack of interest in education has been the pivotal antagonist towards effective learning and academic performance, a hurdle that has been made insignificant by coalescing the education system with various forms of technology. Technology transforms the learning environment and lets students learn in their comfort zone thus boosting their interest and focus on what they are learning as opposed to previous boring learning techniques.
