Technology is very important with in society, and over time, people have seen just how essential technology itself has become to everyday life. Furthermore, this does not just include our own homes or even our own devices, but it also includes universities and their own needs too. In other words, without technology, universities would not be at the place they are currently, and there would less of opportunities to expand teaching methods in the classroom. For example; while I was back in college a few years ago, there was a class that never met in person, but weekly assignments were due every week via blackboard. This is perfect example of how technology is essential in college courses. Now, two devices that college campus classrooms use in order to help students have an easier time in the classroom are as follows: computers and printers.
Computers are an essential part of learning in various ways. Moreover, there are other ways that computers are beneficial to the classroom as well. For example; if one does not want to take notes via notebook, a computer would not only be an efficient way to do so, but the person could also save their documents as well and come back to them any time they wanted to. As Cox (2015) says, technology in the classroom helps students to learn at their own pace, because if some students learn better in different ways, such as taking note in a notepad and writing important notes on a computer (“Benefits of Technology in the Classroom”). Unfortunately though, computers can also have their disadvantages as well. For example; there have been times where Tennessee Tech University’s computers had slow login times for the blackboard assignments that were due online. For reasons such as these, the assignment had to be delayed a few days so that the problem could be fixed. Other than this, other problems at Tennessee Tech University would be that computers would take too long to log in at times. Examples such as these demonstrate that although technology is great, it is certainly not perfect. However, there are other advantages to technology being in the class, and another way this is shown is through printers.
While not every class that I have been in has had printers, those who did have them gave the class opportunities to print out material much faster instead of going to the main computer lab to print out material. This once again is another example of how beneficial technology is. As “The Importance of Using Technology in the Classroom” says, aside from computers, other methods of technology that are included in the class such as printers, help to speed up the learning process through quick methods of finishing what needs to be done” (“Boundless”). However, sometimes lack of printers in the classroom can become a problem, and this something that I have noticed at Tennessee Tech University, even with its technological advantages. Furthermore, because technology itself is faulty, sometimes printers all around campus have not worked, I had something very important that I needed to work on. Sadly, this is an example of how technology is great, but sometimes it can also be faulty too.
In closing, technology in the class is a great thing to have in the classrooms, as computers offer faster and more efficient learning experiences, and printers offer more efficient ways to printer things out quicker. Yes, technology can be faulty, but with all the ups and down is has, I think most people would agree with me when I say the following: you can’t live with technology, and you can’t live without it.
