Telecommunications asset life cycle model and its project elements
Telecommunication asset lifecycle model specifies the best management practices coupled with all the elements of infrastructure based on a telecom enterprise. It aims at providing effective management and control of the process of implementation of tasks associated with telecom management. By enabling strategic sourcing, clear visibility, proper audit & controls, cost control initiatives and efficient vendor management. In telecommunication asset life cycle model, operations run concurrently with the enterprise business planning model.
The model describes the conceptual stage whereby the ideas and decisions to undertaken a particular project is made and all the resources needed identified. Visibility of the project is done to ascertain its viability and manageability. At this stage and financial need for the project is determined and throughout the project managed effectively.
Implementation phase of the model involves management of financial and assets in place by keeping an inventory of the same. The ongoing management of the project will need a centralized accurate and reliable inventory of the telecommunication assets. At implementation stage there is need for information modeling in order to go in line with the requirements of the service as well as achieve client’s expectation. Bringing together documents, people, equipment needed, internet, acceptable standards and modeling them to achieve an interrelated model is carried out.
Operational management will involve management of the already running services. Most of the practices done in the implementation stage will also be carried out in this stage. These practices like auditing are iteratively occurring. The practices that are carried out include order management, reporting, Dispute management, Invoice reconciliation, and Audit and incident management. It is important to notice that all the practices are in relation to telecommunication factors and assets such as internet, Data, and other assets. There is management of assets until such a time a determination is made that the same are no more valuable but liability to the project. At this phase, the same are done away with and the circle starts again.
