The era of advanced technology provides the mankind with a set of innovative tools and solutions that are aimed at facilitating the interaction between separate participants of cooperation process. The possibility of bridging the gaps and uniting people from geographically remote locations stopped being a fictional story and turned into a usual practice applied by many organizations.
The technology of telepresence has found itself in the spotlight of scientific discussions as a powerful means of opening the new horizons in the direction of video conferencing. Nowadays, people can abandon the chance of having long business trips to other cities or even countries and opt for the application of HD cameras and life-size HD displays, which can ensure the real-life transmission of the events unfolding in an opposite telepresence room. The feeling of sharing the same location is enhanced by the high quality acoustics and special arrangement of furniture, which prolongs the interior scene of a particular conference room. Strange as it might sound, the setting looks as if the attendees are occupying the neighboring tables. Such discussions have more efficient results because people forget about the distance and get fully involved into communication, as supported by their body language and voice alterations.
Though having some apparent benefits, this alternative means of conferencing with others over the long kilometers distance has some disadvantages, the main out of which refers to the high costs of the technology implementation. The advanced development of technologies and optimization of its costly characteristics can work in favor of the widespread implementation of telepresence in the scientific and educational circles. As for now, the equipment necessary for telepresence is very expensive and cannot be used by the majority people. Consequently, the evaluation of telepresence efficiency and its interrelation with the invested resources should be further researched.
