Depending on how people use television, its role may either correspond to being negative or positive.

The regulation of programs exposed to young children in televisions is important to ensure that they do not get the wrong impression about the norm of society. Children will have the impression that violence is a normal thing in society and that it is okay to hurt other people. There are regulating bodies pertaining to the age appropriateness of television shows to ensure that children and their parents are guided accordingly in terms of the appropriateness of the shows.
The main advantages of television are that it can reach a wider demographic of audiences worldwide. It can easily disseminate valuable information across countries. Many people still rely on television as their main source of news. Another advantage is that it can tap anyone. Even those who do not have their television can still access information from public places. Television also offer variety of purposes, like what was mentioned earlier it can cater to anyone because of the programs it offers. Some can use television to kill time while others may use it for more productive reasons.
However, the main disadvantage of television is that can result to addiction. It can cause addition for people who do not know how to utilize television properly. Some people depend on television too much that they turn their backs on other important aspects of life such as their family and other relationship. Another disadvantage is the difficulty in regulating the contents. Like what was mentioned, there are different regulating bodies that ensure that the contents shown on television are appropriate for the general public. However, there are some instances that adult scenes are viewed by very young children because of the easy access to shows.

Moreover, it has provided companionship to other people. it is important for people to learn how to properly use television so that its potentiality is harnessed as an advantage towards society instead of a disadvantage.
