- What did you learn from reading the article?
I have learned that Identify Beat is a great method to create a tempo map especially for the live recorded track that has the tempo changed in the entire song. Moreover, Beat Detective is a primary method, which is used analyzing track to create tempo maps of the song. The drum track is a good choice to create a tempo map using the Beat Detective and Identify Beat also.
- What techniques were discussed?
How to develop tempo maps when the song is not recoded is discussed. How to come up with tempo maps with changing tempo in the song is also discussed. In addition, how to make Identify Beat that is a slow method, to make ii work quickly using the shortcut key is discussed. Tab Transient function is also helpful to identify the first beat on the rhythm of the song.
- In what ways will you be able to utilize the information to improve on mixing?
Tempo mapping is the very important skill that I have to manage in my career. I had the hard time when I created the tempo mapping for my first project. I used Tab Transient method to identify track’s tempo, but it seem not correct because my tempo is off when I turn on the click track. There are many tempo changes in my track. So I need to look for the right down beat. Also, I have to listen to more songs with different tempo to help me identify the downbeat easier. Additional practice of the tempo mapping is most important thing I need to do to improve my mixing skills.
- How has the article inspired you to do more research on the information discussed and on mixing in general?
I would to research more on how various songs with very varying tempos can differ in the tempo maps. I would also research more on how to manage tempos and production of tempos maps using Beat Detective. Such would greatly improve my skills in this area.
