Compare and contrast systems forensic uses of the military, law enforcement agencies, and private corporations. Determine which of these groups has the greatest need for systems forensics and what issues may arise if adequate forensics operations were not in place. Give a justification with your response.
Although system forensics is used by military, law enforcements and private corporations alike, the definition of its use to its of these groups are differ. In the military, they define system forensics as something that applies and explores scientific way of gathering, processing of utilizing digital data for the purpose of coming up with descriptions of how a cyber-attack took place for them to come up with ways of restoring the information affected. More so, system forensics for the military also aims to compare, envisage, or deduce actions of enemies to come up with a model of how these will affect military operations which target the enemies. (Joseph, 2002) In the law enforcement agencies, system forensics is primarily use to identify leads to cases and gather and process computer-related evidences to a specific case. Private corporations on the other hand have several uses of systems forensics since most of the time they are the target of cyber crimes. They use system forensics to investigate and look for countermeasures in case there are suspected of actual attacks on their systems. Likewise, they also resort to system forensics when their competitive advantages are being tested or sometimes they even used system forensics to monitor their employees’ performance during work hours. The specific uses of system forensics may differ in some ways, however, all three, that is military, law enforcement agencies and private corporations, uses system forensics to come up with a digital data that is appropriate and influential for use in a criminal investigation process. (Vacca, 2011)
These three groups, I believe need system forensics as it is influential in carrying out their tasks especially in today’s world when technology is being used by everyone. However, among the three groups, I believe that private corporations have the greatest need for it because they represent the largest among these three groups. This just means that if adequate forensic operations are not properly placed they will have the most number of affected people and data as well.
