Dear Smra Asfau,
I hope you are fine and everything is well with you. First of all, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Othman Mohammed Alqabandi. I am 18 years old and I am from Kuwait. I studied in Kuwait for all my life. It is a small country located in the Middle East. Our native language is Arabic. I got the education in my country and then I came to the United States to study further and graduate. I am now studying in California State University - Northridge (CSUN). My major is Mechanical engineering. I chose it because I excel in this field and I enjoy studying engineering and other subjects related to my major.
As I said, my native language is Arabic, so I faced many problems when I came to the United States, just like your father. I studied English in school on elementary, middle and high levels, but my language was still not good enough back then. I could not speak to the native people, so I enrolled in English institution to improve my language skills. Even though my English has not become perfect, I am much better at it now.
Moving to another country or migrating to a strange country following the example of your father did is not easy. Even though I came here just to study I am going to live here for more than 5 years and I believe I can feel what your father felt. It is so hard to live far from the place where you were born and raised.
There are many similarities between my father and your father. Both of them think that having a good education is very important. My father sent me to the United States to study because universities in my country provide weak education. My father has recommended me to get a scholarship. Just like your father, he has sent me to many clubs to learn new activities. For example, I played soccer for my whole life in Kuwaiti club and they asked me to join a national team when I turned 18. I am very thankful to my father, like you you are thankful to yours.
Definitely, your father plays a big role in your life. He has made his own family a priority. He has given you and your brother an opportunity to get a good education by sending you to school, but he also paid attention to new experiences and extra-curricular activities that he thought were crucial for you to take part in. He is an educated father and he knows well what how to teach his children properly. Your father deserves all the gratitude I can offer. All the parents should be like him, patient, wise and caring. He planned to create a happy family despite having nothing when he came to the U.S. for the first time. In one word, he is a genius. He has overcome all the obstacles life was putting him against. I was really inspired by your essay.
Sincerely, Othman
