Human beings tend to always want to take the Bible as it is, in that they tend to always want to take whatever that has been written to be the gospel truth. However, when one logically takes the writings and wordings of the Bible, it will be impossible for one to say that every statement and verse in the Bible is the true word for word. The Bible is said to be God’s revelation to human beings and it is meant to stipulate how we are supposed to carry out ourselves. However, taking each and everything as it is may come with its set of confusions, due to the various contradictions.
Firstly, at time, thevarious writings in the Bible need one to critically think and analyze the writing rather than literally think of what it was intended to bring out. For example, when one takes the Parable of the Vineyard Literally, its main purpose and aim would be diluted. This will mean that the servants of the masters and the masters will always be killed when they let tenants into their lands whereas it was meant to depict how men treat God and his servants. So with this it is clear that it is impossible for one to logically take into account each and every verse and words of the Bible since are one goes into deep reasoning it depicts something completely different.
Secondly, various chapters of the Bible contradict each other. This difference is said to be mainly for the reason that the various authors have different perspectives of what really happened. For example, although both Mark and Luke agree to the fact that Jesus was crucified, the bone of contention is Jesus’ feelings as he was being crucified. This is since, Mark depicts that Jesus was in despair but Luke depicts that Jesus was calm throughout the whole process. When one takes this into account, the question that one will ask himself or herself, is, ‘which one is true?’ so this makes it impossible for one to say that logically each and every word in the Bible is the truth.
Thirdly, at times, the happenings that are recorded in the Bible may be considered to be impossible. For example, when it comes to the occurrences in Jonah’s case, it is considered to be impossible to be in a digestion system for three days and still survive. This if taken logically will mean that all that the whale or big fish’s digestion system didn’t act upon Jonah for the 3 days and the conditions in the whale’s body are favourable for somebody to be able to survive. This has however been proven to be one impossible fact. This is due to the fact that the acidity and the conditions would have already killed him. The various teachers of the religion have gone ahead and tried to explain how that would be possible and even gone ahead to provide that he may have even died and resurrected. However, this issue of the Jonah being swallowed by the whale is which the various theologians state that it wasn’t really as it was depicted but rather this was meant to be an allegory and was meant to depict something else.
Lastly, when it comes to the issue of taking each and every word in the bible to be the truth then confusion may come about even just from the varying accounts of the creation. This is since Genesis Chapter 1 provides a detailed account whereas Chapter 2 provides a simple recap of the happenings. Further, in the same creation, as per Chapter 1, Man is created last after the plants whereas Chapter 2 provides that Man was created before the plants, and as Don Batten tries to explain, Man is created first with the main purpose of taking care of the plants since God knew that the plants would require somebody to take care of them. These contradictions go further down to the issue of ‘was Adam created first?’ Or ‘were they created together’ all this is brought about by the contradicting accounts from the two chapters. Chapter 1:27 provides that “God created mankind in his own image” whereas Chapter 2:18 provides that “..it is not good for the man to be alone, I will make a helper suitable for himhe took one of his ribsthen the Lord God made a woman” if one says that they will take all the wordings of the Bible as they are and all the words to be the truth of the unfolding’s of the creation theory, then the question posed would be, ‘which one among the two is the truth?’
