One of the most significant technologies that affected the lives of people at the individual and national levels is the invention of computers. The electronic computing machines were previously used by R&D centers and some governmental institutions, while indeed they changed the world when they became available and affordable for almost every individual. The modern world uses digital technologies a lot, and the majority of the current operations in various spheres and industries are impossible without having a computer at hand.
Computers have lots of benefits. They are extremely needed for businesses, as they use them for “organization, self-sufficiency, reducing costs, increasing the speeds of transactions and managing sales” (“Computers – How They Have Changed Our Lives,” 2013). Teaching and learning processes significantly improved when the computers appeared as well. They intensified learning and made it more interactive. Currently, many students are able to learn online or to establish webinars in order to share or to gain some important knowledge. The medical industry also used computers for its benefit. The development of computer scanning has made a revolution in diagnosing and treatment prescription. Other industries, including governance, production, and management etc., also benefited a lot from the invention of computers and their penetration.
I believe that the more digital technologies and the Internet develop, the more developed and powerful computers will become. The states and their national services should use the flagman computers to avoid any cyber attacks and threats. Also, the development and thriving of the nation-states depend on the level of computer literacy and digital awareness in the society.
The Cold War Nostalgia
The Cold War was one of the most threatening conflicts that existed after the World War II. Its danger was in the fact that the most powerful states with completely different views on political, social and economic life were increasing their military production and nuclear proliferation. Other states were forced to choose one of the sides and back it in the open conflict, which could explode into the most terrible war that the world had ever seen before.
In this case, the ideology was the most crucial force that united people and pushed them to choose one side. Communism versus capitalism provoked the largest conflict of interests in the history, but did not grow to become a real clash. The modern world sees many ongoing local conflicts that are driven either by territorial disputes or by religious misunderstanding and confrontation. If we consider religion as a superior level of ideology that overwhelms and controls minds and moods of people, then any conflict that derives from religious grounds should be seen as a much more serious threat to the world security and peace, than the Cold War (Woodlock, Loewenstein, Caro & Smart, 2013).
However, I believe that only fanatics and people, whose religious views are incomplete, may find religion as the reason to fight and kill. Each of the world’s religions says do not kill, do not push others to convert and do not do harm to any other living creature. Religions teach us peace, tolerance and co-existence with people of different views and beliefs. Therefore, it is not correct to say that religious antagonism can become a cause of real conflict, but rather a people’s misinterpretation and misusage of religious norms and commandments.
