The Cathedral Literature Review

The next morning I woke up in a daze. I shook my head trying to readjust to the light streaming in from a partially drawn curtain. My head felt strangely heavy and I had this nostalgic air around me. I slowly turned to my wife’s side of the bed but she was not there. Strange. Her waking up so early on a weekend. Then thoughts from the previous slowly came upon me like a clearing mist. I sat up on the bed and tried to think through what had happened. Something had changed. Maybe I did not have a name for it at that time, but I could see it, more like feel it.
I got off and headed to the kitchen and was met by my wife at the door way. She looked at me for a moment longer. It was more like a stare if I remember. The she said, “you are beaming!” I kissed her on the cheek but what I really felt like doing was to pick her in my arms and spin her around. I suddenly felt like appreciating the important people in my life. Appreciating the beauty of nature, seeing beyond the little things that we all care about, but do not mean much to us.
The breakfast table was laid and Robert was already seated, waiting. I greeted him, by his name and asked if he had slept well. My wife stood by the doorway, arms akimbo, a smile on her face. It was good to see that something as small as pleasantries towards her friend, meant much. We had breakfast, this time not in loud silence, we talked about everything. An hour later, I offered to drive Robert around and I knew that he didn’t need eyes to admire the beauty of the countryside.
