Abdullah’s paper discusses what he calles “language shock” (371) and how learning English is not just about learning how to read, speak, and write it, but to also adjust to learning the new cultural context that English is spoken in.
This is very important to my own research as it helps me understand how words and sounds are not the only challenges in learning English.
Ahamed, Mostafa Faruk. “Difficulties and Challenges in Teaching English as the Second and Foreign Language.” The Asian Conference on Language Learning 2013, Osaka, Japan. The International Academic Forum, pp. 273-281.
Ahamed points out the importance English plays in international communities. He also notes how English plays a vital role in how we communicate and interact with other more complicated languages such as Chinese, Arabic, and Urdu to name a few.
This paper is important because it shows how English pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and grammar is adapted or used by non-English native speakers.

Guccione raises five different life challenges faced by students learning English. These include school and home life situations. Included are real life scenarios and solutions as examples for the five challenges she discusses.
This article is extremely helpful in showing how to present a problem and then use a scenario to explain this problem.

Kabir’s paper looks at the use of the classroom to help students not only learn English but to also help them overcome their learning challenges and fears.
This dissertation will help by providing evidence and suggestions on how both students and teachers can help each other to make the learning environment more successful.

Wilson’s short article lists the five biggest challenges faced when learning to English. These are grammar, vocabulary, slang and colloquialism, pronunciation, and English variations.
This list and its short but precise information provide a place to start researching when looking at the specific problems that occur when learning English.
