‘The color of paradise’ is a highly acclaimed Iranian movie that can change your attitude towards movies. This movie was directed as well as written by Majid Majidi. The movie was released in the year February 1999 and gained support of audiences from across the nation. This paper intends to discuss the movie, ‘The color of paradise’ and other related aspects of the movie.
The story of this movie belongs to Mohammed (Mohsen Ramzani), a blind young boy. His father, Hashem (Hossein Mahjoob) is extremely ashamed of his son’s blindness and does not want to bring his son home in the summer vacations. He convinces the school principal to keep his son but principal refuses to do so and Mohammed comes with his father. Mohammed enjoys the vacation and roams the hilly areas around his village. He plays with his sisters and is living his life in full pitch. He sees and feels different things through eyes of his sisters. Suddenly his fate takes a u turn and a number of problems come in his life. Hashem has lost his wife and wants to marry a girl and sends a proposal to girl’s family in this regard. His proposal gets the approval of girl’s family. Hashem hides that he has a blind boy because he thinks that girl or her family can refuse the proposal.
Fearing that his wife can object presence of Mohammed in the house, he sends his son to a carpenter so that he can learn some work. The blind Carpenter assures Hashem that he will train him and make him a good carpenter. Knowing that Mohammed has been sent out of the houset, hashem’s mother falls ill and criticizes the decision. Hashem assures her that he will take him home and goes to bring Mohammed but he is so ashamed and feels sad for his son’s blindness that instead of returning home with his son, he jumps in the river along with his son. Movie ends with a scene where both of them are laying on shore of the sea and Mohammed has been portrayed as reading and writing with the help of brail.
The movie depicts challenges of life that a blind boy faces in his daily life. The portrayal is excellent influences minds of audiences in an effective manner. The movie is one the best movies which is knitted around the real life. This movie very beautifully portrays the articulateness of a blind boy. The color of paradise shows various dimensions of human personality and its connection with external world and nature. The story of this movie is simple but affects the heart as well as brain of audiences and compels them to see life in a different manner.
After having observed the abovementioned, it is good to say that the movie is a very good entertainer and conveys a massage to its viewers. The color of paradise shows real color of life. Emotions, massage, aspirations and troubles of life are beautifully portrayed in the movie. The movie can compel the audiences to love movies. Very small things have been taken into account and direction of this movie is excellent. Although artists are new but the way they have delivered is impressive.
