All security problems need a system solution whether it is a physical problem, personnel or cyber problems. The solution is in the fundamentals of managing a risk these solutions need to have different dimensions whether it is from a scientific discipline or any other discipline. System thinking is founded in the field of system dynamics. It allows people to understand and make social systems better. The approach to system thinking focuses on how the object of study interacts with other constituents of a system. It is like a set of elements coming together to produce a certain behavior. Instead of isolating the parts being studied piece by piece. The system thinking expands into larger numbers of interactions as the issue is being analyzed (Kamien, 2013). The results are very different as compared to those from a traditional approach especially when the study object or issues is complex or is problematic. Systems thinking is effective and is valuable in problems such as recurring problems made worse by previous trials to fix or when an action is directly affected by the environment around the issue and in problems with difficult solutions
Concepts of systems dictate that a system has a boundary and is composed of parts. A system can be put inside another system and can also overlap it. The different parts of a system are all related. The concept also defines that a system is bound in space, but parts do not have to relate. A system has processes transforming inputs into outputs and that a system is autonomous and has a purpose. There are hard systems, which is basically use of computers and operational techniques in management and research. Soft systems are not quantified and are a field that is used to understand viewpoints and interactions and motivations to address quantitative and qualitative parts of a problem. Evolutional systems is used to design a complex social system (Kamien., 2006).
Some challenges that face security expert is to prevent loss of financial and operational value. This is shared closely with safety professionals to. Security operators and domain experts have systems in place to identify and constrain a system from being vulnerable. Systems thinking focuses on border system structure that makes that system vulnerable to threats. Homeland security is complex and has put up systems to protect the country against threats from cyber crimes, terrorism and any other threat that might cripple the state. It has the national cyber security division which works together with the private companies, the military and the government and also intelligence experts to weed out vulnerabilities and threats to assets of information technology assess risks and protecting the civilian people. It is complex to block out unwanted perpetrators and to protect the country from outside threat (Kamien., 2006).
