The Difference Between Student-Athletes And Non-Athlete In 4-Year Institutions Essay Samples

There have been some negative impressions about the student-athletes compared to their non-athlete counterparts. Based on the reading, there were professors who view student-athletes as worse performers when it comes to academic skills than the non-athlete ones. However, we can think of another perception based on these observations. Academic skills may not just be earned from being focused on studies or major, but it can also be developed through social bond. This will enhance the student’s critical thinking skills based on what he can see within the school campus.
It would be safe to presume that non-athlete students are the ones who have higher chances of obtaining intellectual skills due to not being involved in sports. However, students who are not into athletics may not be able to improve their social skills that are important for their future success. It is evident that are many differences between student-athletes and non-athletes. In fact, I personally see the differences myself when I was at school. Non-athlete students seem not to be interested with any kinds of sports, but it is not always the case. There were athlete-students who have good relationship with their non-athlete counterparts.
Based on the reading I have learned that although these students are all in the same campus, there is a chance that gap may develop due to various reasons related to sports activities. For instance, professor-student relationship may be affected especially if the professor gives more importance to academic activities than sports. Also, the gap between student-athletes and non-athlete students could be a complex situation when it comes to promoting better social bonds between the students. Therefore, it is better that student-athletes must learn how to balance their time between sports and studies. Thus, non-athletes must also learn how to see the benefits of sports, both on their academic skills and social interaction within the school campus.
