Many adolescents enter adulthood being completely lost and directionless, with no clue of what is waiting for them out there. I used to be one those confused teenagers, hesitating which life path to choose and what dedicate myself to. One of the most intricate challenges I have ever faced in my life occurred when I had to decide what profession I would like to obtain. During my high-school years, I have been involved in various extra-curricular activities and get impressive results in almost everything I was up to. Nevertheless, I loved sports above all, so the only thing I was absolutely confident about was that I had to find a professional field that helps me to combine my passion about sports and my inner aspiration to help people.
As it usually happens, life shows us the right way when are we almost desperate and about to give up looking. And I was supposed to learn this lesson the hard way. A year ago I got in a terrible car accident, which eventually became a turning point in my life, helping me to figure out what my professional calling is. For all the five month I have been going through physical therapy course, I was surrounded by amazingly experienced therapists and nurses, who went above and beyond their formal responsibilities to facilitate my full recovery. At that time I learnt a lot about human kindness, support and empathy, and got to know what compassionate physical therapy is all about. It was decided once and forever that I am going to become a physical therapist: the profession that seems to perfectly fit my talents, skills and internal life values.
The first thing I did after getting back to normal life was creating a clear plan outlining my primary goal to get a degree in physical therapy field. I have chosen the College at Old Westbury as a leading institution that will be the best place to get a strong background in the medical field, to enhance my eagerness to knowledge and to reveal my hidden potential. I believe that an extraordinary professional has to be proactive towards the community and always be willing to help people regardless of their income, education or other social conditions. I have been working with disadvantaged children for the most part of my life, so I know a thing or two about their situation and how I may personally help to turn the things around. Therefore, I am looking forward to participating in diverse social projects at the College at Old Westbury, such as Community Action, Learning & Leadership Program, and to show my best as an active member of the community.
Moreover, me and my father started a special need basketball program called The Dream League, which is a partner of Shooting Stars program running in Sid Jacobsen Jewish community center, Roslyn, NY. Being both extremely keen on sports, we assumed it would be a great idea to share this experience with hard up children, who need a piece of pure enjoyment and play in their life. I would love to find supporters among the students and staff of the College, to further improve and extend this program and I am absolutely sure that I will find many. As I believe, the College at Old Westbury, can provide me with everything I am looking for in education: solid academic background, friendly community of like-minded people and a groundwork for my continuous improvement and growth. I will be more than honored to become a part of the studentship and contribute to the promotion of the positive image of this institution.
