The ethical actions construct an essential part of human being. Every day our society faces the necessity to make decisions that are connected with the morality. There are a lot of factors which are influencing what pattern of behavior will be chosen and not all of them are in accordance with the ethics. For this work, I have decided to pick a topic of global warming and sustainability, as I regard it as a sharp issue which requires reasonable moral action.
Taking into consideration the components of moral behavior, described by Rest, I believe that the three modern dynamics which are blocking our society to make a step towards sustainable development are the absence of moral sensibility, wrong moral motivation and fear of society’s disapproval . The first one refers to the fact that people are simply not regarding the problem of global warming or sustainable production as an important issue that can influence their lives. Today’s motivations are more about quick development of technologies and growing of production regardless environmental needs. Whenever people are acting against this modern pattern, they tend to fall into the category, which does not match with the mainstream and can be judged negatively even though the moral acting is different. In order to overcome previously mentioned limiting factors, we should pay attention on the role modeling and the feeling of doing the right thing because people tend to follow the opinion leaders and are as well very concerned about their personal being. These two dynamics, in my opinion, could change the way society thinks and act because apart from altruistic promptings people need a strong motivational factor or leader that will somehow force them to make a right ethical decision.
